Week 8 Master Key Experience

Brevity Matters

In the day of Instagram, Tweets, and texting instead of calling this reference is more accurate than ever.  When consulting with my clients I occasionally function in the Human Resources arena.  I’ve had the honor of hiring and training entire sales staffs and, according to my clients, have had incredible success.

I’ve never understood asking for and getting resumes that are more than a page or two, max! How can a 21 or 22-year old accomplish enough in their short life to need a 3 or 4-page resume?  I can list what I’ve accomplished on a 1-page resume and, more than likely, you can too.

I was taught early in my speaking career to say what you’re going to say, say it and then say you said it.  When using a resume or Curriculum Vitae brevity matters.  List your primary attributes, relevant history and what makes you the logical choice.  That should satisfy most hiring managers and HR people.

There are a few exceptions to this rule, of course, for people like researchers, engineers, actual rocket scientists and maybe a couple of other technical positions but for the most part the one-page resume rule works.

By the way…You should be able to concisely express that 1 page at the drop of a hat (your 60-second elevator speech) and should do it often.  Talking to clients or introducing yourself to potential clients.  Building your network of people, resources, and connections to grow your business or career.  Letting others know how you can be of service to them and help with their needs.

Life is fluid.  Constantly moving and changing and people often forget that.  If you don’t think repeating the same thing matters go 30 days without telling your spouse you love them!  If you test that please let me know how it goes…

Week 7 Master Key Experience

When Will You Quit Digging?

I had the opportunity recently to speak to a great group of business owners and entrepreneurs here in Boise.  After one segment I noticed some activity outside the room we were using.  What was going on was on point to what I was speaking about in the seminar.

It was of people who are still digging and ones who quit digging.

There are times I meet people in business who’ve run out of money, borrowed more money and literally reinvented a new way to dig.

You’ve probably seen examples of this in your town…?  Men (and women) who are hard at work using shovels and picks, saws and axes, drills and sledgehammers.  They get up early every day to work really hard fixing and building things and, in the process, fulfilling the dreams of other people.  They use their strength, intelligence, and tenacity to get the job done, but I wonder how long they can do this until something has to give…?

I see business owners who dig in much the same way…

They work nights, weekends, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and during their kid’s  games, school plays and concerts to break about even.  They invest their time, work long hours, take risks, don’t see their families, and at times, live a hand to mouth existence.  And often never achieve what they actually started out to accomplish.

These men and women, these entrepreneurs, are simply digging a different hole.  Each hole is deep, difficult, filled with unknown and the bottom is never fully defined when they start.  Yet, they refuse to quit digging….

Sometimes the quickest way to get out of a hole is to do just that….Quit Digging. 

Each person has a choice.  They can continue to dig and get deeper and deeper into the muck and mire (debt, lack of sleep, time away from their family).

Or they can get some help and learn some proven, effective strategies and techniques to build and grow their business.

Week 6 Master Key Experience

If You Don’t Risk You Can’t Reach Your Highest Potential

 

John Paul Jones was a Naval Commander who fought for the United States against Great Britain in the Revolutionary War in the late 1700’s.  He made friends and enemies among the political elite and his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him an international reputation which persists to this day.

The result is many refer to him as the “Father of the American Navy”.  He shares the title of “Fathers of the Revolution” with the likes of Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and John Adams.  At the end of the day he was a warrior who had a clear understanding of the risks he needed take to win.

Imagine the life of John Paul Jones and consider the fact he only lived to be 45 years old.  He fought and won many of the most significant naval battles in American history and lived to fight again.  He started his maritime career at the age of 13 and was a commander at age 21.

What were you doing when you were 13?  How about 21?

When was the last time you asked yourself, “What risks have I taken lately compared to when I were first started out?”

How many risks have you taken lately?  Have you taken any…?

Now ask yourself, “How’s business?” Or, “How’s my career going?”  Are you where you want to be?  Do you have the business, the career, the life, you envisioned when you started?

Remember when you first opened the doors, or got that new job, and it felt like you had a gun pointed at your head?  Your family was relying on you to keep food on the table.  A roof over their heads.  A car in the driveway.  Your life, their life, depended on it…on you.  It felt like it was succeed or die.  Those are the risks I am talking about.

Have you ever had to cold call or knock doors to drum up business?  Gut in knots, hoping someone would answer because you needed the sale, but secretly hoping no one would? Perspiration forming on your forehead, cold sweat running down your back soaking your shirt?

How about calling up your best customer and asking what you could do to make them happier?  I’ve talked to clients who are afraid of doing this and they are your best candidates.  I would rather know sooner than later!  Why not try it if you are looking to change things up…?

I’m not suggesting you do anything stupid and take over the top risks.  I’m only suggesting you take calculated risks that have a high probability of giving you a positive return on your investment.

Week 5 Master Key Experience

Failure Is Not The Problem… Failure Is How You Succeed!

Who decided failure was bad?  Failure is not a four letter word (literally or figuratively).  Failure IS the road to success.

When something works the first time you might be baffled and have no earthly clue why it worked.  But we often don’t give it a second thought and chalk it up to your innate genius and prodigious skill.

However, when something fails for the third, fourth, fifth time you tend to get very interested in figuring out what’s going on.  You may lose confidence and question your abilities as an individual and an entrepreneur.  The world of success is littered with failures.

Michael Jordan was a failure… Until he wasn’t anymore.  Albert Einstein was a failure… Until he wasn’t anymore.  Mark J. was a failure… Until he wasn’t anymore.  EVERYONE is a failure until they aren’t anymore.  Failure IS the road to success.  Fail more often and sooner if you want to get to the top.

Week 4 Master Key Experience

Even though the workload increased again in Week 4 I feel like I’m continuing to improve and the daily exercises are becoming more of a habit.  However, yesterday was the most challenging day yet.

I worked the night before, not getting to bed until after 3 am (after completing my final readings, of course) and was up by 5:30 am to be at the hospital.  My girlfriend’s Dad was having surgery and we wanted to be there to support him (nothing serious, just a minor procedure, he’s doing good and was home by mid-afternoon).

Because of the time crunch, and lack of sleep, I did not do my morning readings as usual and didn’t think to take them with me to the hospital.

We ended up not getting back home until almost 1 pm and I had to get ready for a client meeting so, again, I didn’t do the readings.  Now I knew how long this meeting could go and I had things I needed to work on, before bed, plus I’m running on very little sleep so I’m starting to stress a little.

However, the meeting went great. I made it home just before 5 pm and was able to do my first readings of the day shortly thereafter.

After completing a few tasks for the business, Massive Action Global, making dinner (Tacos, yum!) and spending some quality time with Jordan it was after 9:30 pm and I still had two readings to complete to be in bed by midnight.

I did the second readings at almost 10 pm and completed the final readings just after midnight, getting to bed a little later than planned, tired, but proud of my achievement and commitment to the program and myself.

Now I realize I could’ve done all three readings of my DMP, the GS and my service cards one after another and get them “out of the way” but I don’t want to “cheat” the process.

I want to get the greatest impact from them and develop good daily habits so it’s important to me to do them throughout the day and, as Mark J says, say them with “Enthuuusiasm!”   Really make them stick – drive them deep into my subconscious – and get the results I know I can if I follow the system.

Week 3 Master Key Experience

My experience with MKE has intensified in week 3.  I am more focused on the exercises and completing them in a more organized, scheduled manner.  I’m making sure I’m doing more when I have more time (i.e. in the morning upon awakening) and spreading the readings and exercises out throughout the day and evening.

My belief level has increased reading the DMP three times a day out loud and doing the other readings.  I have VERY, VERY big goals and I wasn’t sure how I’m going to accomplish them but my belief level is at an all-time high and I am seeing things I want and that will help me reach my goals being drawn to me every day.

I’m in Orange County, California, for a Mastermind event and the topic today was “How to Create and Sell a Continuity Program That Pays You Month After Month”.  Before I left Idaho I was talking to my business partner and we were discussing just this…how can we create a business that will generate a consistently, monthly, passive income?  One that will help business owners and entrepreneurs create success in their personal and professional lives and allow us to create it and put it on almost auto-pilot with very little weekly input from us?

I am working with individuals who have been and are doing it currently and, as part of the Mastermind, they are opening up their “playbook” to me, and the other participants, and showing us what has worked and, more importantly, what has NOT worked.  I have an proven system of the business model I was hoping (and praying) to find and mentors who are willing to share their strategies, techniques, resources, secrets, and insights to follow to be successful.

I now have a plan for how I’m going to create the life I desire and am speaking into existence each day.  If I keep doing what I’m doing (MKE and follow the system) I KNOW it is going to happen.   I just need to get to work and take action…

Week 2 Master Key Experience

Week 2 of the Master Key Experience (MKE) has seen the work load increase – more reading, more exercises – but get easier.  I’m not sure how to explain it…

Maybe I’m in more of a rhythm with the readings or already building good habits but the readings seem to be getting easier and I’m understanding more.

My DMP is starting to come together.  It is getting more defined and getting clearer.  It is helping me clarify the vision I have for myself and my future.

I feel like the Law of Attraction is working in my life.  Recently I have been connecting with people – business owners, entrepreneurs – who are looking for help with different projects or who know people who we may be able to help.

And all it took was making a decision.

A decision to take action to creating the life I desire. Our decisions are revealed by our action.  Decision without action is no decision.  Just as knowing but not doing is no different than not knowing.

The point for this is knowing that we can create whatever we want.  We can have anything we want.  We can’t have everything we want, but we can have anything we want.

Make a decision, change your thoughts, change your beliefs and change your life.

Week 1 The Master Key Experience

The MKE experience, as I understand it, is built around helping an individual think differently and create better, more positive habits based on several different sources, Charles Haanel’s Master Key System, of course, Napoleon Hill’s Think & Grow Rich, The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino, ect .  Understanding that our thoughts and beliefs – our world within – creates our reality – our world without – and what we put out is what we receive back in kind we can change how our actions and, as a consequence, our results.

The biggest challenge this first week has been creating the new habit of doing the exercises each day.  I have been working a lot of nights in addition to operating my business during the day so it has been challenging arranging my schedule to do the exercises.

As an example, yesterday I was busy with clients during the day so I didn’t get to do the midday reading of Scroll 1 and my DMP or Part One of the Master Key Experience.  So last night, after I got home at 1 a.m. I did the second reading of Scroll 1 then read Part One of MKE and then took a break and had a bite to eat.  After my break I read, out loud as directed, Scroll 1 and my DMP to complete my daily exercises.

I was pretty tired, and didn’t get to bed until after 2 a.m., but I felt proud because I fulfilled the commitment I made to myself and the promise I made to be part of MKE.  After a few short days of doing the exercises I feel like I am already seeing changes in my mindset and thought processes and I even feel more peaceful and less stressed by life in general.

I encourage anyone who is struggling with the MKE (and any issues with life, relationships, career, etc.) to keep with it, do the exercises, build those good habits and I KNOW you will see changes and get results you are looking for in your life!
